ELA Showcase Post

My Three Favorite Post:
"Step Up!!!", My Trip To D.C, and Xavier's Bruised Finger
"Step Up!!!" would also be an example of my creativity because it made me start trying new things like adding dialogue into that story.
Xavier's Bruised Finger  shows proof that I'm a thinker/learner because I thought of describing how my ride to D.C. was.
My Trip To D.C. shows evidence of my growth as a writer because this story had alot of adjectives describing how my finger looked when it was bruised/jammed in.

"Step Up!!!"

Twoooooo points!!!!! Cavaliers 40 Lakers 29.
“Dang man they can’t be scorin’ like that. Come on guys!!! We can make a comeback.” I knew we couldn’t the other team had too much momentum and kept scoring. My team and I were getting beat by our rival. It was time for me (Xavier) to step up but we would have to do it after the half as the clock went to zero. BEEEEEEP!!
“Come on guys,” said Coach. “We need some new plays to win this game.”
My friend Kyle and I were furious we were trying real hard. We each had 14 points but we were still down by double-digits.
BEEEEEP!!! Time for the second half of the game. Luckily We got the ball to start the half. I dribbled down the court and passed it to Kyle. He took a three and made it! That gave us the momentum to start coming back. The score was Cavaliers 58  Lakers 57. We had ten seconds to score. We got the ball and Kyle threw me an ALLEY-OOP it to me with two seconds in the game. I was being guarded by the best two guys on their team, but I wasn’t scared I went up for the ball and......
BOING!!!!!!!.....BEEEEEEEEP!! The ball went in we won the game 59-58!!! I made the buzzer-beater dunk.
             “Yay Lakers!!”, said the Crowd.
“Nice dunk Xavier”, My dad told me.
We won the Conference Championship. The finals will be next week against the Celtics.
“Come on guys, I said, We need to practice. We got a huge game next week.”

My Trip To D.C.

One January day I was in my room watching tv. Then my Mom and Dad called me into their room. They said we were going to take a vacation somewhere. I had heard about the Martin Luther King Monument in Washington D.C. My Aunt lived in Maryland which was only twenty minutes away. We all agreed and got our things ready for the trip. I packed some clothes, my games, and a book to keep myself busy on the road. We also packed some snacks for if we got hungry. We were all set and we took off.
While we were on the road we stopped to see my sister at the University Of North Carolina In Greensboro. They call it UNCG for short. She wasn’t there so we decided we would come back after the trip. We also passed a city named Graham. My Dad told me that Kannapolis High School came here to play in the Championship game against Graham High School when he and my Mom were there.. He told me they had lost but he didn’t know by how much.
We finally got to my Aunt’s house in Maryland! I survived a seven hour ride. We got our clothes and electronics out the car and came inside. It was 9:00 so there was no way we were going to the monument today. We planned to go see it tommorrow after we went to church. It was 1:00 pm the next day and we were ready to go see the monument. We made it near the monument but we saw everything else like the white house, Abraham Lincoln’s monument, the Capitol, and finally the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument. That was the best day I ever had and I got a lot of pictures. The next morning was the day we had to leave. While we were leaving we did some last-minute sight seeing.
We arrived back home safely and will be able to tell my friends. That was a vacation I will never forget. I had a lot of fun and I can’t wait to go back.

Xavier's Bruised Finger

One hot summer day my Dad and I went outside in the front yard to play football. While we were playing I asked my Dad if we could kick field goals instead. He agreed, so we got set and were ready to kick. My Dad knelt down and held the football while I got into my kicking stance. I ran and kicked the football as hard as I could. It went really high into the air. But something happened; I kicked my dad's finger on accident. While the ball was in the air I tried to catch it. I caught the ball but it popped my finger. So my Dad and I went inside the house laughing about our aching fingers.
While we were inside the house we checked out our fingers. My Dad's finger was barely bruised. My finger was swollen purple and jammed. My Dad told me I would have to pull my finger back into place. I knew it was going to be tough to do this. I had to "man up" like my Dad always told me, so I started to pull my finger. My family was near me to give support if I needed it. I was nervous but I kept my focus on my finger. For nearly five minutes, I walked around pulling my finger, which sliding and loosening. I was almost ready to give up then....!!POP!!
It finally popped back into place! Finally the aching and blood-rushing pain was over. After a couple minutes the swelling went down and my jammed finger went back to normal. For being tough my family let me eat some ice cream for dessert.

Hunger Games Resaerch Project

This is a post on my Hunger games research project. One of my favorite topics in the book was how the characters were surviving in the wilderness Jungle. It had many different weather changes, and that really effected the tributes.
The environment of the Hunger Games was a tropical rainforest. Tropical rainforest can be really hot or really cold. They could have little or alot of food growth. That comes naturally which makes the forest in the Hunger Games unnatural. In the Hunger Games people called the gamemakers make the forest heat up or cool down. It could also change the weather to pouring rain to a heat blaze.
If you were lost in the woods then here is some steps you could use like the tributes probably used in the arena:
  1. Be prepared. Make sure someone knows where you are going every time you go into  the wilderness, and how long you intend to be gone. Katniss would let Peeta know when she was getting ready to go to hunt for food.
  2.  Don't Panic. Stay in one place, and you decrease your chances of being found. Katniss and Peeta were taught in the training center to camouflage themselves.
You could also compare the Hunger Games with Survivor. CBS's Survivor has become one of the most watched television shows in America.  One of the reasons for this show's success is that there is an adventurer in all  of us and since we all cannot be in a survival situation we like to live  vicariously through the people on the show, just like people live through the characters in the Hunger Games with the emotion, romance, and the fighting.
That is why I chose Wilderness Survival for my research project because I wanted a challenge like the tributes in the Hunger Games had a challenge to stay alive.

Hunger Games Final Project

This is a scene from the Hunger Games that was very important to me because first Peeta and Katniss wanted to hide from Cato. Now they just want to finish him off so they could just go home and see their loved ones again. This i think can relate to everyday life. There is always gonna be someone or something hat might stop you from going on like Cato was the reason Katniss and Peeta didn't go home earlier. But did they stop trying to attack? NO!!! They kept trying and we should keep trying and eventually we will triumph over our fears and reach our goals. Remember don't ever quit because it will bite you on the back until you overcome it. So keep FIGHTING!!!
